About David Reyer
I’m a New Jersey–based photographer and creative director specializing in cinematic portraiture, character photography, cosplay, and environmental storytelling throughout New Jersey and New York City.
My work is centered on creating photographs that feel like moments from a larger story. Rather than simply documenting a costume or appearance, I use lighting, location, expression, wardrobe, and atmosphere to build a believable visual world around each subject. Whether I’m photographing an established character or developing an original concept, my goal is to create images that feel intentional, immersive, and emotionally engaging.
Collaboration is an important part of my process. I work closely with performers, models, cosplayers, designers, and other creatives to develop ideas and give each person room to bring their own interpretation to the project. I approach every session with a plan, while remaining open to unexpected moments and ideas that can make the final photographs stronger.
I’m especially drawn to ambitious, concept-driven productions. Projects such as Punk Monster Mash-Up combine original character development, detailed styling, practical locations, creative lighting, and visual storytelling. These productions allow me to work not only as a photographer, but also as a concept creator, producer, and creative director.
I earned an Associate of Applied Science degree in Photography from County College of Morris and completed the Documentary Practice and Visual Journalism program at the International Center of Photography in New York City. My professional background includes portraiture, documentary photography, photojournalism, automotive photography, events, and commercial photography. Those experiences have taught me how to work efficiently, adapt to unpredictable environments, and remain focused on the story behind the image.
Alongside my commissioned work, I organize photography meetups, workshops, and collaborative productions designed to connect photographers, performers, models, and other members of the creative community.
I am available for cinematic portraits, cosplay and character sessions, editorial assignments, creative campaigns, promotional imagery, collaborative productions, and select events throughout the New York metropolitan area.

About David Reyer Photography Meetups and Workshops
David Reyer Photography Meetups and Workshops is a creative community built around collaboration, education, and the shared experience of making meaningful images.
Founded by New Jersey–based photographer and creative director David Reyer, the group brings together photographers, models, cosplayers, performers, costume designers, makeup artists, and other creatives for organized portrait meetups, themed productions, and hands-on learning opportunities throughout New Jersey and the New York metropolitan area.
The events range from casual portfolio-building meetups to larger concept-driven productions featuring detailed themes, multiple characters, practical locations, lighting setups, and visual storytelling. Projects such as Punk Monster Mash-Upare designed to give participants the opportunity to create ambitious work that would often be difficult to organize independently.
The goal is not simply to gather people in front of cameras. Each event is structured to encourage communication, experimentation, creative problem-solving, and respectful collaboration. Participants are encouraged to exchange ideas, try unfamiliar techniques, develop their portfolios, and build lasting professional relationships.
Photographers of different experience levels are welcome. Newer photographers can gain practical experience working with lighting, posing, direction, and fast-moving group environments, while experienced photographers have the freedom to test new concepts and contribute their own knowledge. Models and performers are treated as creative collaborators rather than props, with an emphasis on clear expectations, personal boundaries, safety, and mutual respect.
David brings a background in portraiture, documentary photography, photojournalism, automotive photography, and commercial photography to each event. His approach combines organization and preparation with enough flexibility for participants to explore their own ideas and visual styles.
